The National Archives of Trinidad and Tobago, a Division of the Ministry of Public Administration and Communications, will stage its sixth annual Archives Awareness Week from 20-24 November, 2017.
The event is a signature outreach event which aims to proactively engage with schools, communities and the public to bring them closer to aspects of their history while promoting the value of records and archives and the role and function of the National Archives.
The theme for this year is “Celebrating Our Ancestral Roots” which seeks to pay homage to the origins of the various people who make up our multiethnic and multicultural nation, as well as to inspire Trinbagonians to explore their own family roots.
The week will feature:

-
presentations on tracing your family history, including one-on-one sessions and films
-
tours to the National Archives for a behind-the-scenes look at how the nation’s historical records are stored, preserved and used
-
viewing of some of the nation’s oldest records as well as records of our ancestors
-
a workshop on how to preserve your family memorabilia
-
activities for schoolchildren with prizes
-
a workshop for public service records managers.
